Jacob Phelps
I am an environmental social scientist with a particular interest in policy, legal and governance dimensions of tropical biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management. My work often focuses on wildlife trade. Trained in geography and natural sciences, I draw on a wide range of methods and approaches. I am also actively involved in conservation activism, courtroom litigation, capacity building and at the science-policy interface.
I am currently based in Indonesia, as Senior Technical Advisor to the Wildlife Conservation Society - Indonesia Program. I retain my affiliation with the Lancaster Environment Centre at Lancaster University, where I have been faculty since 2015. Prior to that, I was a Scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). I received my Ph.D. from the Dept. of Biological Sciences at National University of Singapore, my M.Phil from the
Dept. of Geography at University of Cambridge, and
