The Society for Conservation Biology - Asia Section recently met for a conference in Melaka, Malaysia (19-22 Aug), which included talks on a wide range of interesting topics.
The conference was a great opportunity for new research connections, including with Duan Biggs, perhaps best-known for his 2013 Science Policy Forum calling for legalised trade of rhino horn. I also chatted with Sophie Williams, who presented on the use of bio-economic models to better understand the relationships between cultivation and harvest pressures on wild plant populations.
The conference was also a chance to meet up with old friends, including Enoka Kudavidanage of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, Dan Friess of National University of Singapore, Alison Wee of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Gardens, and my former PhD Supervisor in Singpaore, Ted Webb.
