Seeking Ph.D. applicants: Social dimensions of illegal wildlife trade

We are seeking expressions of interest from prospective Ph.D. students, to apply for funding for a Ph.D. scholarship to conduct research on the social dimensions of Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT).
The position would be co-developed and co-supervised by Drs Jacob Phelps and Gary Potter (Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Lancaster University Law School).
We are interested in topics such as the parallels between IWT, drug and other illegal markets; deterrence effects of policy interventions that respondent to IWT; perceptions and motivations of IWT perpetrators, and structures of IWT markets, but are also open to a wide range of ideas.
We will identify 1-2 dynamic candidates over the coming months to support as they develop project proposals for one or more of the UK government funding agencies (e.g., Economic and Social Research Council, Arts & Humanities Research Council, Lancaster University Studentships).
Timeline: The different funding calls are anticipated for between October 2017-January 2018, so please send expressions of interest as soon as possible. If successful, the position would likely start in October 2018.
Candidates: Ideal candidates would hold a good first degree, hold (or be studying for) a Masters degree, and have some field research experience. We welcome interest from students with a wide range of disciplines: geography, sociology, criminology, international relations, etc., with a demonstrated interest in the environment, or ecologists with experience in the social sciences. We welcome international, EU and UK candidates, which recognising that funding opportunities are most available to UK candidates.
